Made from metal alloy the French Tureen would have originally been filled with stews and represented wealth partly due to the habits of Louis X1V. Over time households would embellish tureens with family inscriptions and the tureen grew to be a work of art in its own right and would be used as serving dishes for potatoes, soups, parsnips etc. Tureens are also made from ceramic and I have a section of them made in metal that when painted look like ceramic.
These tureens has a ladel for dishing out your most favourable stew or soup....
The sizes are for the opening of the tureen.
