Antique table top wasp waisted corset display mannequin

The silhouette of this table mannequin is typical for the years around 1885 to 1895. The original torso was covered in black weave muslin and presented on a round wood stand.

The concept of the wasp waist was to wear a corset so extreme that it deformed the wearers waist. As a costumier (in a previous life), and having had the pleasure of making historical corsets, I am fascinated by this social history. Clothes were cut on a stand and so the mannequin had to reflect the shape of the wearer when she was wearing the corset. This is by no means the most extreme example of a wasp waist mannequin.

The kit is made from metal alloy with a thin 3mm mdf top

The colouring is original and each print has a beautiful deep aged cream sepia type tone to it. They are all slightly different in colour. All images are clear and lettering is easily visible.
